Illuminations; Reflections of Earth is the fireworks spectacular shown at Disney’s Epcot theme park each night. The show is centred around the lagoon at the heart of Epcot, and features visual displays on the water surface, as well as fireworks high in the sky. Illuminations is inspired by humanity and sharing the world we all live in together. As such, it’s only fitting that the surrounding countries at World Showcase are part of the display. Each of the buildings is lit up as part of the show.
Illuminations is a popular display, and often people will sit around the lagoon for most of the evening to get a good view. Disney itself recommends you give at least 45 minutes to get your viewing spot. However, at busier times of the year, you should really double that! Whilst you can always choose to use a FP+ for a preferred viewing area, or even pay to attend a Fireworks Dessert Party, there are plenty of fantastic viewing spots right around World Showcase that you can take advantage of to watch this spectacular show
There are a number of places around Mexico that offer great viewing for Illuminations. The quick service in Mexico, if you’re fortunate enough to get a waterside seat under the veranda, offers an unobstructed view of Illuminations; however it is quite loud as the veranda amplifies the bangs from the fireworks. The latest restaurant addition to Mexico, La Cantina de San Angel also has some fantastic tables with unbeatable views; be sure to time your reservation here properly in order to be at your table for the display
If you are willing to wait to get a good fireworks spot, there are plenty of areas between the UK & Canada which offer great views of Illuminations; pick up some snacks from either country and pick your spot and wait! The veranda at the back of the Rose and Crown bar at the United Kingdom provides an unobstructed view of Illuminations, and you can always reserve a table in the Rose & Crown to ensure a spot in their dedicated viewing area
Japan has a number of fantastic viewing areas, my favourite being the balcony outside the Restaurants. The view is partly obscured by the Japanese structure in the lagoon, you can still see a lot of the performance due simply to the elevated position. You’ll also get a pretty good view of Illuminations down by the railings edging the lake; and some fantastic pictures if you pick your spot and frame the fireworks in between the Japanese architecture. There are tables in Tokyo Dining which also offer great views, if you can get your reservation timed correctly, but these are very popular (the food is delicious!) and can oftentimes be trickier to get
Spice Road Table, the newest restaurant in Morocco has a prime waterfront viewing area, making it the perfect place to enjoy Illuminations from. Whilst the view of Illuminations is very obscured from the rest of Morocco, getting a good table in this restaurant guarantees one of the best views around World Showcase.
While the area at the front of Showcase Plaza is now a dedicated FP+ viewing area, you can still get a great view of Illuminations right along the bridge which extends from Showcase Plaza to Future World. You may miss parts of the show which occur low down (such as the lights on the water), but you’ll have a great view of the fireworks! This is also the perfect place to view Illuminations during busier periods, and you’ll be able to make a faster get away once the show is over than many other guests who will be fighting through crowds around World Showcase!
There are so many fantastic Illuminations viewing spots that my personal recommendation is for you to try a number of different areas in order to figure out which is your favourite. Each spot will offer a different view or perspective of the show, and its great to be able to take in as many of these as possible.
