ADRs are Advance Dining Reservations, which you can make for any table service restaurant in Walt Disney World. Opening 180 days in advance, ADRs can be made at any stage, even when in Resort. Gettings your ADRs right can add a lot of enjoyment to your holiday. However, getting them wrong can leave you feeling a bit disappointed. Here are 5 major Don’ts for when planning your Dining Reservations. Avoiding these rookie mistakes will help you make the most out of dining in Walt Disney World.
Don’t leave it too late
Many popular restaurants and times book up quickly. Don’t make the mistake of thinking you can book a popular table in the weeks running up to your trip. ADRs open 180 days in advance. If you want a popular seating, make sure you are on booking it as soon as you possibly can. In particular, reservations at Cinderellas Table, ‘Ohana and Chef Mickeys can be particuarly tricky to get. And any restaurant with a fireworks view (California Grill, Narcoossees etc..) will book up fast for dining times corresponding with the fireworks. I have always calculated our 180 day mark as soon as our holiday is booked. This means I am prepared to book some important ADRs the minute booking opens.
This is a common mistake, particularly if you are on the dining plan. If you schedule in too many ADRs you will start to feel constricted by your dining. This is especially true if you book a lot of lunch or early dinner sittings which can take you away from the Theme Parks. Make sure you leave yourself plenty of wiggle room around your reservations. And remember that if you aren’t overly fussed on where you eat, you can generally pick up reservations on the day. Plan in the imporant ADRs, but remember to keep your schedule flexible. Similarly we arrange our dining around the Park Hours. This allows for maximise time in the Theme Parks whilst still enjoying a relaxing meal.
Don’t eat the same thing
There are so many different eating establishments in Walt Disney World. With such a vast array of cusines you can be eating something different every night! However, if you don’t plan your ADRs well, you could find yourself eating at a steak restaurant, for exmaple, a number of nights in a row. While many will be happy with this, you could find yourself missing out on an opportunity to try new things! Try to be adventurous and take advantage of all the different dining experiences. Even fussy eaters will find every menu will have at least one ‘safe’ dish to opt for. You can even check out the menus online to make sure your meals aren’t all similar.
Don’t miss a viewing opportunity
Many people don’t realise that a number of restaurants have views of the Fireworks. It can be such a let down to realise once you have finished your meal that a different dining time could have provided a spectacular view! Typically, fireworks displays occur between 8pm and 10pm. A little research will proivde you with a list of restaurants with great views of either Magic Kingdom or Epcot. If you plan on booking one of these restaurants, make sure you plan your ADRs around the show times!
Don’t forget to do your research
Research is key when it comes to planning your ADRs. To make sure you have varied restaurant type, booked tables at the right time, or planned around Park Hours, a bit of planning and research is required. While many hate the thought of this, it really will add to your holiday experience. Not doing your research could have you missing out on some restaruants that are pefect for you. Or, have you book a time that means you’ve to give up your table before the fireworks start. Checking out the menus, the location and the restaurant type should help give you some information to make good ADR choices.
If you can do a little research and follow some key tips, you should be in a prime position to book the restaurants that are right for you when ADRs open 180 days in advance!
