Everyone wants the freedom to enjoy their holiday without worrying about finances. Chances are you will have spent a long time saving and planning for your Walt Disney World holiday, so you’ll probably be a little concerned about finding the balance between having enough spending money to really enjoy your holiday and sticking to your budget to ensure you don’t come home bankrupt! There are many small hints and tips to help you stick to your spending budget, which will leave your hard earned cash for you to spend on whatever luxuries you wish.
Tap Water is free
Keeping hydrated in the Floridian heat is very important, but it isn’t necessary to spend a lot of money to do this. There are plenty of water fountains around the park which we use to refill water bottles that we bring in with us to save us spending more cash on bottles of drink. Another point to keep in mind is that all Quick Service Restaurants will give you a cup of tap water for free (remember to specifically ask for tap water). If you’ve forgotten to bring a bottle with you, or don’t wish to pay extra for a drink with your lunch, this free water is perfect.
Portion sizes in American are generally quite large, so it’s not always necessary to order a separate main course for everyone in your party. You can always order one main to split between you and someone else, or share a main and an extra side in order to keep the overall cost of your meals down, particularly if you know you, or those with you, have small appetites. This can even be done in table service restaurants if you decide to book any sit-down meals; order less mains and a few extra sides for your party to share. You’ll all end up full, but it will help you stop the cost of your meals from spiralling out of control and out of budget. You could even do this a few nights to save some cash to splash out on one or two bigger, special meals during your holiday.
Bring your own snacks
Currently, you are allowed to bring your own food into the Disney Parks with you, which is perfect if you are travelling with family (notable kids!) who love to snack. You can buy some of your family’s favourite snacks much cheaper in a supermarket in the Orlando area, store them in your room, and carry some with you into the parks to stop you from paying the premium for Theme Park snacks. Bringing snacks with you for a few days may mean you can more easily say “yes” to that Mickey shaped pretzel or ice cream bar on others without feeling like you’re blowing your budget
Buy Souvenirs out of the Theme Parks
Like every Theme Park, souvenirs in Walt Disney World do come at a premium. While good value and good quality, not everyones budget will stretch to purchasing lots of souvenirs at these higher prices. Consider hitting some of the shops outside of Disney to buy gifts to bring home, particularly for the like of small gifts for friends of your kids. You’ll still find a lot of Disney-themed merchandise, just a cheaper prices. This way you’ll feel more able to buy a few little luxuries in the Theme Parks without feeling too stretched. If you’re determined to bring home authentic Theme Park merchandise, have a look for items on sale, or items on offer to help you stick to your budget.
Keep an eye out for Offers
Both before and during your holiday, keep an eye out for any offers which may be useful to your family. For those wanting to stay in Disney, Free Dining is one huge offer sure to help with your spending money budget. However, also keep an eye out for Kids Eat Free cards and other discount books offered by travel agents and tour operators. Once in Florida, keep an eye out for dining offers, sales on merchandise, or discounts on anything else which may be valuable to your travel party. Keep in mind however, that sometimes not all offers will be useful, or good value for you, so make sure you fully consider any deals you’re looking at before committing to it!
Using some methods to help you stick to your spending budget will make sure you don’t come home stressed over the state of your finances. Even if you are going with a larger budget, implementing some of these tips may help you save some of your cash for some special luxuries, helping you get even more magical enjoyment from your holiday.
